How We Can Help with a Stubborn Loose Tooth
The anticipation associated with a child's baby teeth being replaced by permanent teeth can be tense, especially when the child anticipates a visit from the tooth fairy. However, patience is key in regard to baby teeth; carelessly or hastily removing a baby tooth can trigger a variety of oral health complications. Contact our office if you have any concerns about your child's baby teeth.

Causes of Stubborn Loose Teeth

The process of permanent teeth replacing baby teeth involves eroding the baby teeth's roots, catalyzing the process in which baby teeth fall out of the mouth. When permanent teeth emerge at an angle, the erosion of the baby teeth roots may not proceed as designed, leading to the baby teeth remaining anchored in place. A more severe problem is when there is no permanent tooth to replace the baby tooth. This situation causes a variety of complications since baby teeth are not meant to last for a patient's lifetime.

How to Handle a Stubborn Loose Tooth

Do not try to force out the baby tooth by pulling or tugging. Extracting a tooth in this manner can damage the gums and increase the risk of infection.

Encourage the child to eat crunchy, healthy foods such as celery or a whole apple. In many cases, naturally eating such a food will result in extraction. And the nutrients in the food will help the child's mouth recover more quickly.

When in doubt, contact our office. Whereas it is rare that a baby tooth requires professional extraction, we can greatly reduce the chances of complications from extraction of a baby tooth.

When your child's baby tooth does not come out naturally, contact our office to determine sensible steps to advance your child's oral health.

Make Dental Milestones Fun for Your Child
When children view oral health routines as enjoyable instead of merely chores, they will be more likely to develop good oral health routines. Framing and presenting oral health activities in ways that excite and encourage children are vital to fostering good oral health procedures.

Ways to Make Oral Health More Engaging for Your Children

Apply a reward incentive for routine dental exams. Holding family time or a similar treat after the dental exam will lead to children eagerly anticipating their next dentist visit.

Involve your children with oral health purchases. Within reason, allow your children to select their toothbrush, their toothpaste, and their dental floss.

Brush and floss with your child. Especially for young children, oral health can be a bonding experience for parents and children.

Contact our office for additional ideas and product suggestions to encourage children to actively participate in their oral health.

Raw Produce Keep Mouths Healthy
It is common knowledge that a healthy diet leads to a healthy body. Foods with high concentrations of vitamins, minerals, and beneficial compounds bolster our bodies' functions. In regard to good oral health, raw produce is one of the best types of food.

Benefits of Eating Raw Produce

Firm produce, such as carrots and apples, prompt the generation of saliva, preventing dry mouth and the complications it triggers. Leafy greens are high in calcium, which fortifies enamel, and the nutrients in leafy greens combat harmful bacteria responsible for gum disease. Many fruits and vegetables have high concentrations of vitamin C, which also prevents the spread of harmful microorganisms. Fruits with malic acid can act as natural teeth-whiteners. The textures of some produce, including celery and apples, cause them to dislodge trapped food particles.

Our treatment philosophy centers around each child's individual needs and concerns to create a gentle and caring approach that works for that child. We firmly believe that a positive, enjoyable dental experience will help children build confidence and knowledge that will create a lifetime of great dental health.
