How Can I Help My Sensitive Teeth?
Minimize Tooth Sensitivities
You may find that you are experiencing sharp and stinging pain after eating certain foods and drinking certain beverages. For some, even breathing cold air can cause extreme pain. If this is happening to you, then it could be that you have sensitive gums and teeth. Although these are common, they are often inconveniencing and painful. Nonetheless, the condition can easily be treated. With a few changes in lifestyle, you can even eliminate the sensitivity of teeth.

Teeth sensitivity occurs due to many things. Erosion of the enamel by acidic foods can make teeth to be sensitive. Receding gums also cause teeth sensitivity since the roots become exposed. Cracked and decayed teeth can again cause sensitivity.

Since the treatments for tooth sensitivity are so many, the best thing you can do is determine what is causing the sensitivity. From there, you can mitigate the problem.
Use desensitizing toothpaste. It reduces the nerves’ ability to respond to any painful substances. Fluoride supplements also help strengthen weak tooth enamel. Again, sealants can help since they bar irritants from gaining access to the nerves of teeth. If you cannot get respite from these solutions, then you may need to get root canal treatment to remove the nerve as well as the infected pulp and restore the functionality of your tooth.

Avoid acidic foods or beverages, wear a mouthguard if bruxism is causing damage to the enamel, and keep up with oral hygiene. Don’t forget to visit a dentist for scheduled dental checkups. Last but not least, brush gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Contact us if you have questions about tooth sensitivity.

Why Are Dental Checkups Essential?
During a dental checkup, there are many things our dentist can do to ensure your oral hygiene is good. The dentist will run a few examinations to check if your gums are healthy and if your teeth have any decay or cavities. If there are any signs of decay, the dentist will decide whether to extract the teeth or add fillings to prevent further decay. The dentist will also take x-rays to see if you have jaw problems or other dental issues which may need to be addressed.

Regular dental checkups can help save your teeth and gums from future issues. You will also receive proper dental education on how to take care of your teeth to avoid further damage. You will be instructed on what to eat and what not to eat – some foods are really bad for your teeth, the importance of brushing, flossing, and visiting a dental office regularly.

Can Dental Issues Be Hereditary?

Maybe you inherited your father's bone structure or your mother's beautiful eyes. It's also likely that you inherited their dental issues. Just like your other body features, your oral health can be influenced by your genes. Things like crooked teeth can be passed down from one generation to another. It is also possible that you picked up your dad or mom's poor oral hygiene habits during childhood. That being said, we cannot entirely blame genetics for the overall health of our gums and teeth. Your genes can contribute to a series of problems including overbites, overcrowding, gaps, and underbites. Tooth discoloration and decay can also be contributed to by your genes. You may realize that if one of your parents wore braces, you are also likely to wear them. Additionally, if your parents had persistent tooth decay, it can also occur for you.
